Norway is a leader in offshore CO2 storage, leveraging its extensive experience in oil and gas production. This expertise is evidenced by the successful CO2 storage initiatives in the Sleipner field since 1996 and the Snøhvit field since 2008.
In 2021, the government approved the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Northern Lights/Longship project (details available at norlights.com). This groundbreaking project, set to launch in 2026, will be the first to offer cross-border CO2 transport and storage services. Initially, it aims to store 1.5 million tons of CO2 per year 2,600 meters beneath the North Sea seabed.
Norway is also advancing new CO2 storage projects and has issued multiple CO2 storage licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf. These efforts employ both proven oil and gas technologies and innovative new methods to ensure the safe storage of CO2.
This webinar will bring together Norwegian companies to showcase their subsea storage technologies, including storage, injection, and monitoring solutions.
