To ensure Norwegian expertise, technology and services are being considered for upcoming CCS projects in Malaysia, we are planning to host a 3-day CCS Delegation Visit to KL from 17-19 May 2023.

Malaysia is targeting start-up of its first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, the Kasawari project, in 2025 and there are several more announced. Some of the key players and proposed projects include:

Petronas Kasawari: Malaysia’s first CCS development, offshore Sarawak – CO2 will be exported from a newbuild CCS platform via a 135km subsea pipeline to the M1 field where it will be injected into a depleted reservoir. Project is currently in FEED with MMHE/RanhillWorley and they are expected to win the EPC. Initial capacity of this project is expected to be up to 4mmtpa.
PTTEP Lang Lebah: Produced CO2 will be extracted at the onshore gas plant and exported for injection at the depleted Golok field offshore Sarawak.
CarigaliHess, JDA Block A-18 expansion: A new sour gas tieback may include CCS via existing WHP and wells. Project currently in pre-FEED, expected to enter FEED soon

According to Petronas’ Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) more than 46tcf of potential CO2 storage capacity has been identified across 16 of Malaysia’s depleted fields. Eleven of these 16 potential CCS sites are at fields offshore Sarawak while the other five are located offshore Peninsular Malaysia. There is a desire to offer Malaysian projects as regional CCS hubs.

A tentative agenda for this CCS Delegation Visit -

Day 1 & 2 visit to the key operators, engineering contractors and other stakeholders (e.g. MPM) for the delegation to get an understanding of the CCS sector in Malaysia; details on projects, technology/services needs and gaps, government incentives and strategy, etc
Day 3 seminar with presentations on the technologies/services offered by the delegate companies. Key operators, engineering contractors and other stakeholders involved in the Malaysian CCS sector will be invited to attend this seminar

This CCS Delegation Visit is only available for Norwegian companies with relevant expertise, technology and/or services. There will be a small fee (tbc) for participation. This fee will go towards the direct costs of hosting the events in KL.
