ScotWind tender

ScotWind tender

The ScotWind competition process commenced in 2018 with the formal tender process launching formally in June 2021 following the adoption of the Scottish Government Marine Scotland Sectoral Marine Plan, adopted in October 2020. The ScotWind tender offered 15 areas for Offshore Wind (OSW) development to the market covering a mix of water depths and recognising a realistic maximum development scenario of 26GW.

The results announced by Crown Estate Scotland on 17-Jan-2022 awarded 24.826 GW which included 58% of floating wind technology.  O&G majors including Shell, BP, Total and Technip were successful in securing large scale sites in Scotland.

OSW developers such as Equinor, EDF, Mainstream, ParkWind, ESB were not successful but new entrants to the UK for example Blue Float, Falck Renewables, BayWa.re were awarded capacity.

Dorothy Shepherd, NORWEP’s UK advisor, has summed it up with more details and comments.
