AURASEAL is a specially synthesized polymeric product designed to act as a sealing agent and fluid loss controller in fresh water to saturated salt water-based drilling fluid systems. Shale formations have micron and sub-micron sized pores and fractures which can not be sealed by commonly used drilling fluid additives, as a result a good filter-cake does not form on the formation wall which results in a continuous filtrate invasion through these micron sized pores into the formation increasing the pore pressure transmission. A number of wellbore stabilization problems are known to occur due to pore pressure transmission. AURASEAL has unique characteristics to seal micro-fractures and micropores of the formation preventing the penetration/invasion of drilling fluids.
