Technology readiness (TRL)
Maximizing recovery from deepwater gas deposits may require infield late-life gas boosting. The ABB Electrical Power System with subsea transformers and long step out technology is an enabler for subsea gas compression that also reduces the energy consumption and CO2 emission in the range of 20 - 60%. In addition, it also reduces the footprint, lowers the CAPEX & OPEX and permits better HSE characteristics.
These technologies have been applied to develop Chevron’s Gorgon Stage 2 project. A subsea compression station with a normally unattended floating Field Control Station (FCS) is planned for boosting of gas from the Jansz-Io field to shore, 135 kilometres away. The installation is electrified with power and control from shore, operating the subsea compression infrastructure installed at around 1400-meter water depth, providing annual CO2-savings of c.240 000t.
Identified as a Lower Emissions Oil and Gas Solution (LEOG).
