Topsides weight is critical for establishing the business case for a field development.
Induction bending of piping combined with compact flanges will reduce piping weight significantly (> 50%). This has a significant knock-on effect on structural weights. Moreover increased bending radius will reduce pressure drop and erosion, and consequently energy consumption and operating costs.
NIRAS, Stressman and TP Products have established a working relationship to optimise piping solutions to subsea and topsides, brownfield and greenfield projects. By working together they have demonstrated the scale of benefits which have already been realised in a number of projects .
For example, the Agard B semi-submersible installation piping weight was reduced from 6,500 to 2,500tons, which equated to a 7,400 tons reduction in carbon emissions.
