Australia is developing an offshore wind energy sector, with feasibility licenses granted to a number of developers, work is most advanced in the Gippsland Offshore Wind Energy Zone, an area in the Bass Strait off the south coast of Gippsland, Victoria.

One of the proponents Gippsland Skies is proposing a 2.5 GW project to be developed approximately 30 km off the coast.
