Norwegian Energy Partners had a successful week in Abu Dhabi at the end of January. As a follow up for Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference ADIPEC in October 2022, Norwegian Energy Partners attended now Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023 ADSW where our CEO Sjur Bratland had the opportunity to speak at World Future Energy Summit WFES about energy transition and working models in Norway.
We met key stakeholders and decision makers from MASDAR , TAQA and ADNOC , to discuss their interest for Norwegian technology as we organized 2 workshops where 8 Norwegian companies could present their hydrogen/CCUS technologies. The workshops were a follow up request from ADNOC and MASDAR meetings during the ADIPEC.
We experienced that the companies appreciate and have trust in their Norwegian counter parts, our partner companies. During the week we also participated in the annual meeting of IRENA.
The UAE wants to diversify their industry with the energy space. One of the drivers is that UAE will host COP28 Read more in Dubai. With that initiative the UAE emphasizes ambitions in taking responsibility for energy transition towards greener future with lower emissions. We can see results of a formidable development in access to affordable renewable energy.
The UAE has the means, the need, the interest, the expertise and the curiosity to engage suppliers from abroad, and Norway in particular, has a good reputation in the region. That is part of the reasons that Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP) is now strengthening its presence in Middle East. We have engaged a local adviser for Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Daoudi, who has a good contacts in Saudi Aramco. Together with our local adviser, Nasrollah Gharesifard, who has been our representative in the UAE for 16 years, we will be able to establish an efficient team working across technologies to increase Norwegian industry’s and our partner companies’ market shares in the Middle East. With more than 120 Norwegian companies established in the region we are well positioned, however it is important that the renewable industry also recognizes the rapid development happening in the region.
In terms of technology, we are also expanding areas of interest significantly. In 2023 we will focus on marketing of hydrogen, CCUS, energy systems and LNG technologies, alongside with oil and gas technologies. Oil and Gas has been, and still is, the corner stone in the development of energy technologies in Norway and in the UAE. The focus now will be on developing low carbon solutions and emission reduction in exploitation of fossil energy sources.
Norwegian Energy Partners, together with the rest of Team Norway (Innovation Norway and Norwegian Embassies), has now a unique opportunity to support Norwegian companies in establishing successful businesses in the region, but it is crucial to be involved from early stage with planning activities and building relations. COP28 will be a catalysator in energy transition and will make green projects more visible. Norwegian Energy partners plan to establish a solid foothold, position and long-term business relations in the region.
